4 Ways To Prepare The Exterior Of Your Home For A New Paint Job

Applying new paint to the exterior of your business can help improve the curb appeal of your business. Before painting the outside of your business, you need to prepare the surface for some new paint.

Way #1: Clean Away the Dirt

First, you need to clean away the dirt on the outside of your business. You don't want to put paint on the exterior of your business if it is dirty. The paint will not stick as well as it should, and the paint will not last as long as it should.

One of the easiest ways to do clean dirt off the building is to pressure wash the it. You can do this yourself or you can hire someone to pressure wash and clean the outside of your building.

Way #2: Get Rid of Loose Paint

Second, you are going to want to get rid of any loose paint on your building. A lot of the loose paint should come off when you pressure wash the building. You can then manually get rid of any remaining loose paint by using a flat edge tool to scrape it away. You don't need to remove all the paint; you can easily apply paint over old paint. If the paint is damaged though, new paint will not adhere as well.

Way #3: Fix Any Exterior Damage

Third, you need to fix any exterior damage to the building. For example, if there are cracks in the building, you need to fill those cracks in. You don't want to paint over exterior damage; you want to repair it first.

If any of your siding is damaged, you may want to replace or repair it. You can hire a siding repair company to take care of your siding if there is serious damage present.

Way #4: Protect the Landscaping

Finally, before you paint the exterior of your business, you need to protect your landscaping. Get some plastic to throw over the landscaping or some breathable fabric to put over the landscaping when actively painting. This will protect the landscaping from getting paint and chemicals on it. Just remember to pull the fabric or plastic back at the end of the day or when you are done painting.
